Understanding W-CDMA & UMTS
- Course Name: Understanding W-CDMA & UMTS
- Duration: 2 days
- Technical Level: 2
Overview
Designed to give a general overview of both Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) and its use within Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS), this course establishes the need for a new generation of mobile network before exploring how UMTS proposes to meets those requirements.
The service aspects, architecture, operation, planning and implementation strategies are all presented in a clear concise format. In addition, the delegate will gain a basic understanding of the Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) scheme used on the UMTS Air Interface.
Course Objectives
- Describe the principle requirements driving the development and introduction of the next generation of mobile network
- Explain how UMTS will address the requirements for the 3G network
- State at least five main features or characteristics of UMTS
- Describe the basic architecture of the UMTS Network
- Explain the principles of the W-CDMA air interface, describing the capabilities, advantages, requirements and resulting impact on services
- Discuss with confidence, some of the issues related to planning UMTS radio networks.
- Chart the possible migration strategies towards the next generation of mobile network, including evolution towards all IP
Course Requirements
A basic understanding of cellular radio principles would be an advantage, but not essential.
