Advisory Board

As part of the WiMAX Forum's and Informa's commitment to fully match our conferences with the needs of the entire WiMAX ecosystem we have invited selected industry figures to join the WiMAX Forum Congress Events Series advisory board for 2008. The board will give strategic level input during the development of the event to ensure each event offers maximum value and relevance to all.

Ron Resnick, President, WiMAX Forum

Ron Resnick

Ron serves as President and Chairman of the WiMAX Forum, a position he has held since 2004. He is employed by Intel as a member of the Mobility Group. In June 2002, Ron launched and became general manager of Intel's Broadband Wireless Access business startup focused on wireless Metropolitan Area Network ("last mile") technology. Ron joined Intel in April of 2000 where, as director of new business development for Intel's Corporate Technology Group, he managed technology commercialization efforts within Intel's labs. He concurrently served as a staff member of Intel's New Business Initiatives, an internal venture fund established to attract and incubate new business efforts internal to Intel. Before joining Intel, Resnick served in executive marketing and business development positions, most recently as vice president of marketing of a computer peripherals company, ThrustMaster. He is a member of the Association of Corporate Growth and board member of the Wireless Communications Association. He also served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. Ron earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Rutgers University.

Scott Richardson, Chief Strategy Officer, Clearwire

Scott Richardson

As chief strategy officer, Scott Richardson is responsible for driving Clearwire's mobile wireless broadband efforts, WiMAX strategy, technology investment and field trials. During two decades in the wireless and chip industries, Mr. Richardson has worked with key industry leaders to define and shape the WiMAX standards with the goal of delivering next-generation wireless broadband networks around the world. Prior to joining Clearwire in January 2007, Richardson spent 20 years at Intel in a variety of key management roles, most recently leading Intel's broadband wireless business. Previously he served as vice president of Intel's Mobility Group and general manager of the company's Service Provider Business Group, where he was responsible for creating the IEEE 802.16 standard and delivering the company's silicon products for WiMAX Certified wireless equipment and access devices. Earlier, Richardson served as general manager of Intel's OEM communication systems business serving the networking and communications market and also led software efforts within Intel's Enterprise Server Group.

Ivano Costa, Senior Manager VAS, Telecom Italia

Ivano Costa

Ivano Costa received his Ph.D in Telecommunication from Polytechnic of Turin (Italy) in 2001 and his M.S. Degree in Electronic Engineering in 1998.

He has been working with Telecom Italia Group since 1999, at first in TILAB (formerly CSELT) and Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) and currently in the Technology Innovation Dept of Telecom Italia. He participated in various research projects on UMTS network architecture and service platform and implicated in the strategic development of 3G services in TIM. He is currently involved in the DVB-H Service project and, as project leader, in the WIBRO Trial project. He is also the company's representative for the Fixed Mobile Convergence Alliance (FMCA).

Shahid Miah, CTO, Wateen Telecom

Shahid Miah

One of the first employees of Wateen Telecom Mr Miah successfully launched LDI services across Pakistan with international connectivity to UK and the Middle East. He is an accomplished telecommunications professional with expertise in operations of Next Generation Networks as well as Legacy TDM Carrier networks. A graduate with an honors degree, Mr Miah started his telecom career in GSM in 1995 with Ericsson UK providing support to Vodafone, O2 and T-Mobile. In the decade that has passed, he has gained a wealth of experience in telecoms working for vendors, operators and systems integrators in the UK and Europe. In 2000, Mr Miah started focusing on technologies based on the convergence of voice and data and spent 6 months working with Cisco Systems testing and evaluating their solutions based on soft switch architecture. Before joining the group in November 2004, he was a director in a consultancy firm offering services to customers such as Cable & Wireless for convergent applications and VoIP solutions.

One of Mr Miah's key achievements at Wateen has been the formation of a highly experienced, highly skilled and dynamic engineering team with a focus on delivering services of the highest quality.

Hyun Pyo Kim, Director WiBRO, Korea Telecom

Dr. Kim is currently a Director of Technology Cooperation Division at WiBro (Mobile WiMAX) Business Unit in KT Corporation. His major responsibilities include WiBro standardization in TTA, IEEE and WiMAX Forum and related technology cooperation activities in WiMAX area. Currently he is a Board member of the WiMAX Forum.

Prior to joining KT, he took a variety of leading roles in R & D Lab of LG Electronics and IMRI from 1996 to 2004, as a senior researcher and VP in wireless communication and information appliance area. From 1990 to 1992, He was responsible for telecommunication network software as a System Engineer in IBM Korea.

Dr. Kim received Ph.D. (1996) in electronics engineering from Texas A & M University, U.S.A, subsequent to his B.S.E. (1987) and M.S.E.(1989) in Electrical Engineering from Seoul National University, Korea.

Alan Moskowitz, Director, CTO Office, MobiTV

Alan Moskowitz

Alan Moskowitz is the Director of Strategic Alliances for the Office of the CTO at MobiTV, Inc. where he is responsible for the strategy and execution of the company's transition into next generation network and device technologies. He has worked in these capacities for two years. Alan is also a co-Principle Investigator for the WiMAX Forum Proof of Concept Sandbox in Northern California. The goal of the PoC Sandbox is to provide WiMAX Forum participants a real-World test bed to construct, deploy and evaluate applications over Mobile WiMAX.

Prior to MobiTV Alan was on the founding team of TiVo where he worked for seven years in various technology projects developing the Personal Video Recorder. Before TiVo, Alan worked with the Interactive Television team at Silicon Graphics. Alan has a bachelor's degree in Economics and a bachelor's and master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University in New York City.

Peter Jarich, Wireless Research Director, Current Analysis

Peter Jarich

Mr. Peter Jarich, Research Director (Wireless Infrastructure and Carrier Core) at Current Analysis, spends most of his day tracking, analyzing, and consulting on developments impacting mobile infrastructure and mobile networking: 2G and 3G RAN and packet core along with mobile TV, metro-scale WiFi and WiMAX. Additionally, as Research Director, Peter oversees Current's coverage of Optical Networking, Carrier Infrastructure (core, edge and service routing) and Telecom Infrastructure Services.

Howie Singer, VP Technology, Warner Music

Howie Singer

Howie Singer is the Vice President of Strategic Technology for Warner Music Group. He leads the Digital Technology & Architecture Group supporting WMG's on-line distribution, anti-piracy, and new media initiatives. He is responsible for evaluating new technologies for innovative products and services as well as content protection.

Before joining WMG in 2002, Singer worked for several start-up companies in digital distribution including Rightscom, Reciprocal, and a2b music.

He spent the first 20 years of his career at AT&T and Bell Labs developing speakerphones, cellular phones, and videophones and is listed as an inventor on over a dozen patents. He holds a BS degree in Computer Science from the University at Stony Brook and a MS and PhD in Operations Research from Cornell University.

Hideo Okinaka, Vice President and GM of Technical Standards and Spectrum Division, KDDI

Hideo Okinaka

Dr. Hideo Okinaka is Vice President and General Manager of Emerging Technologies and Spectrum Division at KDDI Corporation and responsible for industry and government relations on technology matters including investigation into emerging technologies, standards strategy, bridging a valley between standardisation and implementation, and spectrum affairs. Prior to assuming the current role in April 2006, he was responsible for the corporate level technology strategy as Vice President and General Manager of Strategic Technology Management Division. Until March 2004, he had been working on the cellular telephone business since 1991, including business development strategy for the KDDI's "au" business unit as Vice President, the Japanese TDMA and IMT-2000 system development, and licence bidding in offshore markets. Prior to this, he spent 14 years for R&D primarily on the satellite communication system engineering with particular emphasis on mobile satellite systems at KDD and Inmarsat.

He currently serves on the Board of Directors of WiMAX Forum. He was the Chair of 3GPP2 Steering Committee in 2003-2004 term and also served as the Chair of 3GPP2 TSG-S, Services and Systems Aspects working group, from its foundation in 1999 till January 2001. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Mobile Wireless Internet Forum (MWIF) during the entire period of its life.

Dr. Okinaka received Morita Prize and Achievement Award from the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communications Engineers of Japan for his contribution to the development of digital mobile satellite communication systems. He was also praised by Recognition Award from the ITU Association of Japan for his contribution to the 3G mobile system standardisation. He earned a B.S. degree in applied physics, a M.S. degree in physics and a Dr. Engineering degree in communication science from Waseda University.
